Continuous versus intermittent enteral nutrition in hospitalised dogs and cats using a new scoring system: A prospective clinical study

Nutrition is an important part of the critical care. The goals this prospective clinical study were to create a scoring system for assessment patient nutritional status and compare continuous intermittent bolus feeding enteral nutrition (EN). A total 38 patients (21 dogs 17 cats) divided into Group C (continuous feeding; 23 patients) I (intermittent 15 patients). following variables recorded each in both groups: gastrointestinal (GI) complications, changes body weight (BW), condition score (BCS), muscle (MCS), veterinary (VetNSS), length hospitalisation outcome. normality data was assessed using Shapiro-Wilk test. Fisher’s exact test, Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, t-test used statistical analyses. Significant found VetNSS BW between 1st 5th day C. seems be useful monitoring hospitalised patients. Anorectic cats can be successfully supported with either or methods similar risk GI complications outcomes.
